The Senate on Tuesday endorsed David Fink’s nomination as director of the Federal Railway Department, which is in charge of safety and rail investigation.
In the vote of 51-47 along the party, Fink was approved as part of the 107 candidates waiting for approval.
President Donald Trump was nominated for Fink in January. Former Pan AM Railway President and the fifth generation railway will bring 45 years of rail experience and “deliver Fra to a new era of technology safety and innovation.”
David Armstrong Fink is the son of the late David Andrew Fink, a job railroad that worked for the Pennsylvania and Penn Railway before serving as the President of Gilford, was later re -introduced as the Pan AM railway.
Fink started working with General Motors in the 1980s, and in 2006, after serving as Vice President in 1998, he became Pan AM Railway President. He remained President of President CSX Transport (NASDAQ: CSX), a deal that was announced in 2020 and approved in April 2022.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Fink thanked the President and their Transport Secretary Duffy for their support during the approval process. “Under this government, FRA will return to its main focus on safety, innovation and maximizing our resources for a strong America right now and in the future,” Fink said.
Railway trade associations welcomed Fink’s approval.
“David’s unique experience as a fifth -generation railway brings unique specialties to the role and makes data -driven regulation that enhances safety and performance in the network,” the US Railway Association said in a statement. “AAR is eager to work with the Fink and FRA manager to promote smart and evidence -based policies that enhance innovation, strengthen the supply chain, and support the global US competition.
Chuck Baker, president of the US Regional Railway and Railway Association, noted that Fink is famous in the short line circles.
“He was an active member of the association and helped safety and safety culture committees throughout the industry,” Baker said in a statement. “We are confident that he gives the same practical and thoughtful leadership skills and a passionate focus on safety and will take over monitoring US railroads.”
Paul P. Skoutelas, executive director of the American Public Transport Association, said the Fink Railway experience would help expand passenger services.
“The proven record of Fink’s director puts his unique innovation and operational excellence to guide Fra during this evolving period for passenger rail,” Skoutelas said in a statement.
“Thanks to historical investments, communities across the country are ready to renovate passenger railway infrastructure, improve safety and service expansion. APTA is looking forward to working closely with Fink and FRA manager to advance policies that increase the growth of intercity railroads, strengthen travel railroads and integrate them with other transportation methods.”
