Officials are starting $ 22b portal to strengthen proximity
Mexican President Claudia Shinboum is a major betting in the port as its future spine in world trade.
In his first address from the country on September 1, Shinbaum announced nearly $ 22 billion in public and private investment to expand and modernize Mexican ports in the next six years.
“We decided to turn Mexico into a port power plant,” sheinbaum said.
The project includes major Pacific and Persian Gulf ports, including Manzanilo, Lazarro, Verroz, Salina Cruz, Coatzacoalcos and Progreso with the aim of strengthening maritime competition and near investment.
One of the biggest initiatives is the $ 75 billion isthmus’s interstate corridor from Tehuantepec-a railway and port network that connects to the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean that Mexico hopes to provide a faster and cheaper replacement for the Panama Canal.
The corridor will include modern ports, two stacks and new industrial complexes along the way.
Key port projects are:
- Manzanilo: Expansion to become the largest port of Latin America, with a triple capacity to 10 million units equivalent to twenty feet until 2030.
- Lisaro Karadasas: As a multi -mode center with extensive customs and container infrastructure.
- Izada: Expand the pond and dredging to handle larger ships.
- Veracruz: New breaker and terminal space to attract private investment.
- Prussu: Extended terminals and new rail connections tied to the Maya train.
Sheinbaum said the strategy “anchors Mexico in the global supply chains” and puts the country as a production and logistics leader.
