
After three years in the role, Barbara Melvin announced his resignation as President and Managing Director of the South Carolina ports (SC ports).
He intends to follow other opportunities, and end 26 years of work With the SC ports, which included leading large infrastructure projects such as deepening Charleston Port.
“I am grateful for the opportunity I have served in South Carolina and the port office over the years,” Barbara Melvin said. However, for personal and professional reasons, I want to follow other opportunities.
“Knowing the flexibility of the port authorities and its people, I have no doubt that it is more successful in the future.”
Melvin joined the SC ports in 1998. She became the first woman to be the leader US container port In 2022.

“The Board of Directors thanks Barbara for its long public service to the state through its work in the port office,” said Bill Stern.
“He has been positive for the past three years as a CEO in the positive direction,” he said.
Appointed BoardDPhilip Podgett, as an interim CEO, is immediately effective.
Padgett joined in 2016 as to port Controller And now it leads to financial operations, risk management and real estate.
“I am looking forward to continuing to serve my port and leading my team as an interim managing director until the replacement is named,” said Padgett.
Recently, the SC ports have been promoted in two main infrastructure projects in the port of Charleston to boost rail capacity and expand operations at the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal.
