President Donald Trump said the United States may take 25 % of import tariffs from India as a deadline on August 1.
Trump pointed to the potential rate while talking to press members in the Air Force. Asked if the rate of imports from India will be between 20 and 25 percent, Trump said, “Yes, I think.”
However, Trump went on to say that the new tariff rate has not been finalized.
“We want to see,” Trump said.
Trump’s remarks were implemented a few days before his country’s specific tariffs were to be implemented on August 1.
Earlier this month, Trump shared more than 20 letters on the tariff rate for imports of several countries, including South Korea, Bangladesh and Thailand. Tax was from 20 % to 50 %.
Since then, several countries have reached an agreement with the United States on tariffs and other trade policies, including the European Union, Japan and Indonesia. The United States and India have not yet reached such an agreement.
At a Sunday press meeting, Trump said the United States is sending weekly newspapers to countries that confirm or clarify their tariffs will be imported on August 1. India was not one of the countries in previous letters shared by Trump.
Imports from India under the main duties of Trump, announced in April, were targeted at 26 %. These taxes have been stopped from April 9 in favor of a 10 % base tariff.
According to the US International Commission’s International Commission’s data, the United States imported approximately $ 87 billion in goods from India last year, accounting for about $ 42 billion, accounting for 2.4 % of US trade.
