Volvo has announced that the integrated side airbags are now standard in all the new Volvo trucks for North America. The company, known for the creation of the world’s first three -point seat belt in 1959, and then open and accessible patents, now drives the driver’s efforts to further protect the driver in the event of an accident or return.
The announcement was made as part of Volvo’s larger pressure as a focus on gaining a greater market share in North America. The first step for Volvo was to redesign its new VNL and VNR for the North American market under a single platform.
“The last time we made a completely new truck’s platform was back in 1993. The platform was then moved to North America in 96 and we launched VN series. It did the same platform until last year. Then we renewed everything. Michel Lawrence, who proves in South Carolina.
“So we did not inherit any platforms on the other side of the ocean. So this is a real -life developed in North America and 90 % of it is new. Our goal was quite clear. Yes, we want to launch with a completely completely truck platform, and we also want the safest, most efficient and convenient fuel in the market.
Volvo Trucks bets that focusing on safety and a re -design truck will be a major point in the North American Class 8 competitive market. “So we are definitely ready for the future … We are the market leader in many countries. We are not here today, but you see from the investments we made, we wish to grow a lot during the next business cycle in North America,” Cook said.
Volvo Group, World Parents to Volvo Trucks North America, runs a network of approximately 2,200 salespeople worldwide in more than 130 countries. For the new VNL, all its trucks in North America are built at their new river valley factory in Dublin, VA.
In addition, the lateral curtain airbags as default features Volvo’s pressure to put itself as one of the safest road trucks. “If you ask customers around the world, mention a Volvo brand -related word, I bet 99 % say for good reasons. We have always been a safety leader,” Cook added.
During the press event, Cook showed a crash test manifestation of an accident with and without the use of airbags.
For a driver who is at least 7 to 7 1/2 feet from the ground, the dangers of injury in the head are very high. In this test, the cabin simulated a Roller event. The film and the results were interesting.
The crash test without airbag with the lateral curtain after crushing its simulated head against the reinforced door frame did not create it. The airbag testing test with the lateral curtain, as the airbag is deployed and a sheet -like buffer is rapidly destroyed, protecting the entire body and reducing catastrophic damage.
“We will never compromise the safety in Volvo,” Cook said.
