Lopez Diaz leads the toolmaker’s global supply chain strategy and operations and joins the company with more than 20 years of manufacturing, P&L and supply chain experience. Most recently, as the North American Supply Chain Officer for Schneider Electric Energy Technology Inc., he oversaw 50 manufacturing sites and 13 distribution centers in North and Central America.
The announcement comes after Stanley Black & Decker’s former head of global supply chain, Tamer Abuaita, left the role in May. Abuaita currently serves as a senior advisor to the company as part of the transfer and distribution agreement.
Despite the leadership change, Stanley Black & Decker reported an adjusted gross margin of 31.6% in the third quarter, close to its target of 35%. The company attributed the improved margin to supply chain efficiency and its response to the new US tariffs.
The company’s efforts to reduce tariffs include raising prices and shifting sourcing and production, mainly from China to Mexico.
“We plan to reduce roughly 15 percent of our U.S. supply from China from 2024 to less than 10 percent by mid-2026 and to less than 5 percent by the end of 2026,” EVP and CFO Patrick Hallinan said in a Nov. 4 earnings call. “These milestones are essential to achieving targeted gross margin goals and to improving supply chain flexibility.”
