Dimerco’s latest Asia-Pacific shipping report points to a steady air market this month as peak-season e-commerce and high-tech cargo continue to boost demand across China, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Ocean shipping remains steady but sensitive, with most carriers holding inventory rather than aggressive stockpiling ahead of the Chinese New Year.
These insights from 2025, along with practical guidance for navigating the year ahead, will be at the center of a webinar featuring Dimerco and transportation and transportation resources on December 10. Register here now.
So what does the report say?
Global manufacturing PMI remained at 50.8 in October, marking a third straight month of expansion, as airlines across the region reallocate capacity to long-haul routes and cargo availability eases.
Weather-related disruptions at Southeast Asian ports, vessel cancellations, and a nationwide roadblock to Mexico also affected cargo flow and year-end scheduling.
Key points: December freight conditions
- Air transportation It remains in the US and key Asian hubs, and the e-commerce momentum continues after Black Friday and Thanksgiving.
- Ocean shipping Fixed, supported by front-loading and limited limited ships heading into Chinese New Year.
- Southeast Asia It sees ongoing weather-related delays and port cancellations affecting schedules and space.
- China and Hong Kong Reported long-term export volume increases and capacity reductions to the United States and the European Union.
- Mexico Transportation was disrupted in late November due to nationwide blockades affecting access to domestic shipments.
“Air capacity is under clear pressure as year-end volumes move quickly, while ocean capacity is steady but cautious.” said Kathy Liu, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, Dimerco Express Group.
Much of the outlook for the first quarter now depends on the behavior of restocking after the Lunar New Year and how operators manage space through 2026.
